Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue is dedicated to providing a safe haven for unwanted, abused, neglected horses and to improve the relationship between horses and people. We are committed to raising funds to support the rescued horses in our care and will pursue the acquisition of grants, gifts, bequests and donations to support the organization. We are a no-kill rescue striving to promote the humane treatment and to strengthen the bond between horses and people through the education of people, especially children. Our goal is to properly unite humans and horses in a safe environment, using accepted methods to preserve the best equine care through informative and instructional guidance, education and administration adhering to the understanding of the need for the preservation of rural equine communities. We are not breed specific and promise each of our horses will never again know the abuse, neglect, abandonment or other injury that brought them to our facilities.
LOHR & Project Animal Rescue A short educational documentary created by volunteers to promote education to potential adopters. The film highlights a day in the life at area shelters for domestic animals, including LOHR- cats, dogs, horses and smaller pocket pets. We explore this through the eyes of the animals.
LOHR is home to 50 formerly abused, neglected and unwanted horses. The horses are often so broken they cannot be ridden or perform their traditional jobs. LOHR rehabilitates those horses, giving them a forever home, a new job, and a purpose. Through EquiNorth, these horses become an active part of an EAGALA certified, Natural Lifemanship trained, mental health treatment team that provides our community with EAP and EAL. EAP is an experiential alternative to talk therapy in which clients actively participate in their own treatment. As prey animals, a horse’s hypervigilance provides clients with instant, honest, non-judgmental feedback. This feedback enables clients who feel disconnected and powerless to gain self-awareness, relational awareness, and develop inner strength. The EquinNorth Program at LOHR has seen much success working with at-risk youth, youth mandated by probation, individuals affected by cancer, grief and loss, autism, ADHD, self-injurious behavior, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Lucky Orphans and Equinorth are people healing horses, healing people.
